Food delivery for restaurants: what it is and what are the benefits

Home delivery: what it is and how it works

I

n recent years, the growth of online shopping and the advent of the pandemic have given a strong impetus to the development of apps dedicated to food delivery. These are companies that offer a home delivery service exclusively dedicated to restaurants and food venues. These apps can be downloaded onto one's smartphone and allow the user to order their menu in just a few minutes and with just a few clicks.

This is a practical and fast solution, which saves time by avoiding long phone calls and, above all, offers the possibility of receiving what has been ordered directly at home, without the need to go to the restaurant, as is the case with the take-away service. In short, apps dedicated to food delivery represent an excellent opportunity to offer the home delivery service and thus increase the number of customers. Not all venues are in fact organised and structured to provide such a service. Of course, while food delivery represents an opportunity for growth, it also has its disadvantages.

In order to enter the circuit of these applications, it is necessary to pay a series of fee, which must necessarily be subtracted from one's turnover. Before embarking on a path of this kind, it is therefore a good idea to weigh up all the pros and consand also examine the various opportunities on the market.

Home delivery apps: Uber eat, Deliveroo and Just eat

In this regard, one of the best-known apps is undoubtedly Just eatEstablished in 2007, it can now be considered a leader in the food delivery market. The app is very easy to use and allows you to order products from any kind of cuisine, both Italian and international.

Not only that, Just eat offers truly capillary coverage and is present in many Italian cities. As far as delivery is concerned, however, unlike with other apps, the service is completely entrusted to the affiliated establishments, which manage it internally with their own delivery men. The activation cost is around EUR 150 and, thereafter, Just eat retains a percentage of between 10% and 15%.

Deliverooon the other hand, is a London-based company that was founded in 2013 and is now one of the most widely used food delivery apps also in our country. At the moment, the app is present in about 170 Italian cities and offers the possibility to order from any kind of restaurant or pizzeria.

Deliveroo and Uber Eats: features and differences

Unlike Just eat, Deliveroo handles the delivery with its own riders, who take care of picking up the order and delivering it to the designated address. Membership is free of charge, but as is the case with other food delivery companies, there is no uniform rate for all partner restaurants. In any case, the contract may include a fee ranging from 16% to 25%.

Finally, another popular app is Uber Eats. The company is actually a division of the larger Uber, an application dedicated to private transport. Present in Italy since 2016, it is currently available in major Italian cities, such as Rome, Milan, Turin, Bologna, Florence, Naples, Bari, Palermo, etc.

Uber eats also provides its riders and allows them to order any type of cuisine, both Italian and international. The application offers the possibility of paying by credit card, Paypal, Google Pay he Apple Paywhile it does not allow payment by cash on delivery.

As far as the percentage to be paid to the company is concerned, the values are very similar to those of Deliveroo and can therefore vary from 16% to 25%. circa.
